Carbon stock markets sell the sky and the air we breathe to polluters so they can pollute more instead of cutting emissions at the source. Right this very second, permits to pollute called “carbon credits” are traded on carbon markets all over the world.

Some carbon markets are “national” and cover a whole country. Other carbon markets are “subnational” and only cover just a state, province or region. Jerry Brown’s Sky Sellers’ Summit, the California Global Climate Action Summit (GCAS), will contribute to consolidating these carbon markets into one global carbon market – the WTO of the Sky. Whoever controls the global carbon market may eventually control the global economy and global governance. Carbon may even become the new global currency.

Carbon Markets mean More Pollution.

Selling the Sky on carbon markets does NOT reduce pollution, carbon markets INCREASE pollution. For example, “the United Nations Kyoto Protocol’s carbon trading “increased emissions by 600 million tons.”

 

  • Carbon Markets mean Raping Mother Earth. The worst “climate criminals” like Big Oil, mining, chemical, logging, paper and pulp corporations do carbon trading on these markets to greenwash extractivism.
  • Carbon Markets mean More Climate Profiteering. Big polluters and the World Bank use carbon markets to make billions from the climate crisis they have caused. Meanwhile, the World Bank increased its funding for fossil fuels almost 25% in 2014.

Personal Carbon Trading

An extreme possibility: Soon if you don’t buy permits to pollute called carbon credits, you may not be able to heat your home; drive your car or take a plane. Personal Carbon Trading is currently voluntary, but it may become law. You may have to become your very own carbon market. Just like you report your income to determine how much taxes you need to pay, you and your family may eventually have to report how much you pollute to determine how much carbon credits you need to buy. Since you might receive a certain number of free carbon credits, if you stay in bed all day, you might even be able to sell your extra carbon credits.

In June 2018, the United Kingdom moved closer to implementing carbon rationing and Personal Carbon Trading “for every man, woman and child”. Personal Carbon Trading would increase state surveillance of citizens. “The carbon credits would be monitored using an identification card, similar to the plastic cards used by customers each time they patronize a grocery store,” according to the British government. A new currency would be used, possibly a cryptocurrency on the blockchain.
